Construction of new Grantham Road, ca.1935
The present day Grantham Road was constructed in the 1930s along with the concrete bridge over the River Devon. It cut across the old area of allotments that extended from the river to Rutland Lane, which was then the turnpike route towards Grantham, turning when it met Easthorpe Road to cross the river via the old Washdyke Bridge, which was demolished when the new road and bridge were constructed.
