The Three-Arch Bridge, Normanton
This bridge, dating from about 1880, carried a farm-access road over the old Melton-Bottesford-Newark railway and the River Devon in the fields west of Normanton. It collapsed during a period of heavy rain in March 2007, owing to erosion of poorply maintained foundations by the river in spate. Fortunately, the railway had closed over 30 years before this, but it was a landmark whose loss was regretted. It has been replaced by a modest utilitarian bridge of no architectural merit.
