The A52 passed through the village until the building of the by-pass in 1988.

As traffic volumes increased in the 70’s and 80’s the road surface required frequent attention.

A complete renovation of the surface was undertaken in 1977.

Mr Bob Sutton, a long time resident of High Street watches progress.

Fred Cooper with one of his family also stands by watching.

Lorries frequently failed to negotiate the bends or shed their loads with resulting damage to walls and property. (see Before the By-pass)

The pavement could be a dangerous place!

In the two year period aloneĀ  between 1982-84 there were 22 recorded accidents on the A52 on the approaches to and in the village itself.
