Bottesford Football Club 1st Team 1967 or 1968

Tom Lane (back row far left), from Barrowby, kindly made this photograph available. He was recruited by Brian Jallands to play Centre Half for Bottesford. Knee injuries cut his football ‘career’ short. However he has fond memories of his time with Bottesford. He cannot remember the names of all those in the photograph.

Tom also recalls that “Jally (Brian Jallands as he was known) first gave me the opportunity to play for the Bottesford Youth Team in the Newark Youth League. The wonderful Kenny Kirton was the goalkeeper in that team and others included Jimmy Parnham, younger brother of John, Ian Abbott, Mick Hickman, Stan Taylor and Erroll Marriot. The photo is of the Bottesford first team who played in the Grantham League Premier Division. It was one of my first matches in the first team and I think it may have been a league match against Woolsthorpe.”

Update: John Howitt has kindly provided the missing names – thank you.

Back Row: Tom Lane;  Len Spencer; John Parnham (Goal Keeper);  Stan Taylor; Ray Parker; ‘Mac’ Macmillan

Front Row: John Daybell; Robert Bond; Terry Saxby; Jock Moncrieff; John Howitt.
