Local farmer Henry Goodson, donated a large stone trough to the village in 1985.

Soon after it was installed adjacent to the Cross and Stocks a large concrete pipe fell from a passing lorry demolishing the railings and the trough.

Luckily no one was on the pavement at the time.

The stone trough now at the Cross is a replacement.

The former Telephone Exchange in the background is now the Melton Building Society. The telephone equipment was removed in January 2007.

Superseded by mobile phones the Telephone box was taken away in February 2007.
