The Official Opening of Belvoir Secondary School

Although Belvoir Secondary School admitted its first pupils in 1958, the official opening of the school took place on July 11th 1960, fifty years ago. We are grateful to Mr. Pat Poyser for lending us his copy of the programme for the official opening. Were you there? Nice to see these pictures of the opening of the school. I remember the opening event and the picture being taken of the children in the library. I was there but the photo is not clear enough to make a positive identification. The picture of the boy feeding the pig features one of the Ward boys from Waltham. In 1960/61 I believe "Mrs Brown" was not yet married and if I remember correctly the marriage took place during the summer holidays. I am still in touch with Mike Turrell as he lives not far away from me in Bedfordshire. I think the caption "Dick Bradshaw" should read "Dick Bagshaw". He is related to me and at the time his father had an ironmongery shop in Melton. Mr Dewey was related to me also - he was a second cousin to my father.
