This photograph was taken from inside the church yard near the bridge. Forge Cottage was the point where you got off the bus from Grantham after it turned from Gap lane onto Main Street, the double decker getting quite a lean on as it turned. On the other side in front of the white house was the stop for Grantham. The White House belonged to a Mr Wright and was not the school house I knew. That was the next house up Main Street after the school it had very fancy chimney stacks.
My Wright had an orchard to the right of the house next to Gap lane and we occasionally scrumped it through a hole in the hedge I remember being quite ill from the effects of gooseberries once.
Sometimes this lane is called Church lane and sometimes Gap Lane. Thinking about this, I suppose it may work on which way one was going: it was Gap Lane if you were heading towards the Gap and Church Lane when traveling towards the Church.
