Graham Burdett

Driver Harry Harby and family (daughter Florrie and his wife Rose) during the 1st World War
From the collection of Graham Burdett

Shown is a photograph of Driver Harry Harby with his wife Rose and daughter Florrie

You already have the postcards back and forth between father and daughter during the 1st world war courtesy of Glenys Claricoats.

Florrie was born in 1904 and later in life went on to marry Sidney Darby (my grandparents), They had 2 girls Marjorie and Florence Eva, my aunt and mother.

Please see Harby Harby’s service biography and the Harby Family Brothers in the War Four brothers fought but only one got to live in Bottesford. Further photographs and postcards can also be found in the Glenys and Melvyn Claricoat’s Collection .

  • Thank you very much Graham for this most interesting addition to the Bottesford Parish WW1 Archive. It must have been taken later in the 1st World War given Florrie’s apparent age and his service uniform. We will take a closer look at his uniform and try to date it more precisely. Many thanks for your interest and contributions to the web site. I have alerted Bill Pinfold one of the website editors who has a particular interest in the Harby family’s 1st World War service. Bill is editing the Glenys and Melvyn Claricoat’s WW1 postcard collection for the archive section on the website.
