Scouts, Storytelling, Family & ‘Living History’ at Library Opening

The first event of the year will be the official opening of Bottesford’s refurbished library, which will take place  from 10 a.m. on Saturday January 12th . There will be a variety of activities, including a demonstration of the Project Website for those who have not had a chance to look at it.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners of our Local History ‘Where Is It’ quiz. A splendid set of photographs showing the process of the library’s refurbishment, taken by Dave Middleton, can be seen on the website, which also features a ‘Bottesford Roofs and Chimneys’ Quiz for those who enjoy a challenge. No prizes, though, only the satisfaction of proving how well you know Bottesford from every angle.

There will also be Family History workshops, a display by Bottesford Scouts and story telling sessions. Refreshments too, so we look forward to seeing the project team there. Details of the programme are available from the library or on the Living History website: www.bottesfordhistory.org.uk.

A Bottesford Heirloom

Also on display at the Library re-launch will be the lovely scrapbook compiled by Year 5 pupils of Bottesford Primary School. The scrapbook includes photographs from the nineteenth century to the present along with pupils writing about their families and will create a picture of childhood in Bottesford in the first decade of the 21st Century. It will also be a treasure for today’s children to show their children and grandchildren. The Community Heritage Project would like to thank all the parents and children involved and especially their teacher, Alison Longdon, whose hard work and collaboration with Jessica Gibby of Creative Memories U.K. made this possible.

Don’t Miss  !!! BOTTESFORD -The Movie !!!

Angela Marsh and her talented camera crew have the organization of the Bottesford video well underway. Filming will take place on February 4th, 5th and 6th between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. when they will be touring the village and interviewing local residents. There has been a very positive response from the people they have approached to take part. The team consists of Julia Jones, Presenter; Peggy Topps, Camerawoman; and Angela Marsh, Director. Further filming will take place later in the year. Anyone interested in contributing should contact Peggy or Angela.

Coming Soon, A Very Dramatic Event

Jules Tobin and her team of writers and helpers are producing a Living History drama based on pictures and memories of Bottesford during the early 1950s. The performance will be on the afternoon of Sunday May 4th 2008, the day before the Village Gala on May Day Bank Holiday. A set of short plays will be performed at points around the village centre starting from the old school rooms on Grantham Road and ending in the Baptist Chapel on Queen Street, once the school canteen. They will bring the past to life in the places where it really happened. The audience will be led from one location to the next on this outing by the Head Master of the old school. We want to involve as many local people as we can, to make it a truly communal event.
