Bottesford Parish 1st World War Centenary

The Bottesford Heritage Group is helping to organise events to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, 1914-1918. We welcome more volunteers to join in the planning and organisation of centenary activities. Proposals so far include: tracing and contacting of relatives of those named on the memorials and those who served from the Parish with a view to recording any family memorabilia concerning their war time service and lives; the preparation of a commemorative volume that focuses on the contributions made by families to the war effort from Bottesford, Easthorpe, Normanton and Muston; the organisation of Centenary exhibitions sometime during the period 2104 to 2016; the preparation of articles for the Bottesford History website and the Bottesford Heritage notice board. Please do get in touch if you or any organisation you represent would be willing to be involved.

Meetings to develop the details of these and other suggested activities will be organised in the near future. Please look out for further details on the Heritage Notice Board outside the Co-op on Queen Street or check this website  http://www.bottesfordhistory.org.uk

  • Thank you to all the village organisations and people who have volunteered to be involved in the Bottesford Parish 1st World War Centenary Project.  The interest and enthusiasm for this heritage project is really appreciated. We aim to focus on the people who served, the ways in which the community coped and memories from that time. It will be a real community effort and will safeguard the history of the Parish from that period for future generations. Centenary events are planned to involve everyone from the locality including, Bottesford, Easthorpe, Muston and Normanton. Our application for funding is under consideration by the Heritage Lottery Fund. We hope to have a decision by the end of January 2014. A successful bid to the HLF would enable us to start the 1st World War Centenary Project in the Autumn.

  • Heritage Lottery Fund success. The Heritage Lottery Fund have announced an award of £34,100 to support the Bottesford Parish 1st World War Centenary Project: People, Community and Memory. These funds will enable us to find out and secure for the future the previously hidden history of the 1st World War in the parishes of Bottesford and Muston. There will be many opportunities for people to be involved in the project. Please do join in. Further details of events and activities will follow in the near future
