The Vale of Belvoir Probus Club

A warm welcome

By David French

The Vale of Belvoir Probus Club

Probus Clubs were initiated by the Rotary movement in the mid 1960’s to promote and maintain companionship for retired and semi-retired professional and business men (hence Pro-Bus) and the like. We are a non-political and non- sectarian Club with Members from all kinds of career backgrounds with a wide range of interests.

The Vale of Belvoir Probus Club was formed 30 years ago and, in common with other Probus Clubs, is totally autonomous and has no affiliation with any other organisation. However a Probus Information Centre in Worcester provides information and services.

We are not a charity and do not run charity fund- raising events. However we do occasionally have a speaker from a Charity and may make a collection from the Members present.

In a sense we are our own Charity as the Club seeks to offer non-financial support to Members suffering difficulties such as bereavement or illness and to foster this aim we have an Officer, the Almoner, dedicated to this important aspect of our work.

Our meetings are held at the Chequers Inn, Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. We arrive at 10.15 am for coffee and a chat and the formal meeting commences at 10.45 am with a short business session when the Officers keep us updated with news from their areas of responsibility. Following this we are entertained by our speaker and at midday we have an informal, optional two course lunch with coffee. The lunch costs £12.00.

We have a number of Social events during the year including a New Year Lunch, a Presidents day and a number of interesting outings all of which can be attended by Members’ guests

Our annual subscription is £30.00 with no meeting charge.

If you would like to know more why not come to a “taster” meeting. Get to know some Members and see what we really get up to. To arrange this or to get more information please contact our Acting Membership Secretary, Barry Greenhalgh, on telephone no. 0115 8412851 or email : baza54@hotmail.com

We will be very pleased to see you and can assure you of a warm welcome.
