Registration guide

How to become a contributor to the old Living History website (no longer valid)

By Neil Fortey

Click the 'Registration' button to open the registration screen.
Type in your user name and secret password, then your real name and email address. Now click 'Register' and that's it!
Click the 'Add title' button and type in the title and credits of your article, then click 'Add words' and type in your text (or you can copy-paste the text from your word processor).
To load a picture, click 'Add photos', then click 'Browse' to select a JPG image on your hard disc drive, and then click Upload the image to add it to the website.
To add a caption to your photo, click on the thumbnail version, and then you can type in the title and credit. Then click 'Done'. You can also Delete the photo, or use the Move buttons to alter the order in which your pictures appear.

The first two pictures guide you through the simple steps in registering with the site for the first time. You only need to do this once.

The next three show steps in adding your article. First of all, you need to log in using the username and password that you have registered. Then click the ‘Add / Edit Pages‘ button in the left hand column. This brings up a screen which lets you start adding a new article or continue working on an existing one (you don’t have to add a complete article all at once). Click ‘Add a page‘ to start on a new article.

Alternatively, click ‘Edit‘ by one of your unfinished articles if you want to do some more on it.

You can then type in your title and credit/author details, then type or paste in your text, then add one or more photos and finally add captions to the photos. You can also load external documents such as PDF file using ‘Add documents’.

Use ‘Preview‘ to see how your work will appear on the site. Use ‘Save‘ to store an unfinished verison of your article. When you are happy that your article is complete, click on ‘Submit‘ and it will be passed to the site editors for checking and posting on the site for all the world to see.

Please contact the site team, best by email, if you have any problems.
