Harold McMillan campaigning, in front of the Red Lion, Grantham Road, Bottesford
Prime Minister Harold McMillan giving a speach in the open air in front of the Red Lion public house, Bottesford during an election campaign. McMillan became Prime Minister in 1957 following the resignation of Sir Anthony Eden, and is famous for coining the phrase “you’ve never had it so good” in July 1957. He then led the Conservatives to success in 1959, after a campaign which may be when this picture was taken.
