Bottesford Village band marching in Church Street ahead of the Bottesford Friendly Society members carrying their marching banner, on the inauguration of Edward Prince of Wales on the 13th July 1911.
This fascinating photograph shows the scene in Church Street as the procession passes en route for the church on the occasion of the inauguration of Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII). At the centre of the picture are the musicians of the Bottesford Village Band, leading the men the Bottesford Friendly Society, with their marching banner held aloft. This banner is still cared for in the village. To either side are village women and children, enjoying the spectacle.
On the left of the picture is part of the former Red Lion public house, complete with trees which resemble trees still there today! Right at the back is the village school (now known as ‘The Old School’).You can see the small belfry on the gable end of the school building, complete with the school bell – both still there today, 114 years later.
On the right are Rutland House (no.7 Church St) and Geeson’s shop (no.9).
