Floods at Bottesford, Good Friday 1998
The Vale of Belvoir is at risk of flooding during periods of intense rainfall. In this example, Easter rains made the River Devon burst its banks. This picture shows the ancient ford where the river is crossed by Normanton Lane. The 16th Century Bede House, on the far side of the flooded ford, only narrowly escaping the waters.
Flooding occurred again in the winter of 1998/1999 and in August 2001, and also in subsequent years, most recently in February 2020.
