Mr & Mrs Kirk by the flooded ford, Good Friday 1998
Joan and Dennis Kirk stand in St Mary’s churchyard close to the edge of the flood waters, on Good Friday, 1998. The water has flooded part of the churchyard itself, and there has been damage to the curtain wall. An anxious day for villagers.
St Mary’s parish church stands on a slight rise in the ground, sufficient to keep it clear of the flood waters. Medieval builders knew all about the flooding and the risk to buildings close to rivers.
