Frank Marston 1942, at work with tractor and dog.
British farmers were late in switching from horses to tractors, but the change spurred on by the wartime need to increase food production, it apparent in these pictures. The label for the first picture reads ‘Frank Marston on a Ford 27N tractor in 1942’. This model, the Fordson 27N, was made at the Dagenham factory from 1929 to 1945.
Bottesford farms were mixed, both arable and livestock. Frank took his dog, Bess, with him.
