Old postcard of Bottesford, showing the Red Lion and Grantham Road
This old picture was taken looking east along the road towards Grantham from close to the village cross. The Red Lion is on the left, on the right is the barn of Canal Farm (now converted to form part of the Daybell’s Barns houses). In the centre, in the corner of the Red Lion grounds, is a shed which was a blacksmith’s forge and wheelwrights premises into the 1930s. Further away, beyond the large tree, is the victorian schoolmaster’s house. The road passed this house and then veered to the right, along what is now called Rutland Lane, and the present day Grantham Road had not been built.
