Interior of the kitchen at the Lock House 16
A butler’s sink stands in front of the ‘oriel’ window, the walls are painted brickwork, and there is a single tap for the cold supply of filtered canal water. It is perhaps fortunate that the canal was no longer in use, so that the water was little contaminated. When the canal was busy, it is unclear where the lock keeper’s family obtained their water – was there a well or did they take it from the River Devon?
