Bottesford Cricket Sunday Football Club

The Bull Football Team 1981/2

By Ian Smith

The Bull 1981 Season

Over the years Bottesford has had many football teams. This side played in the Grantham so-called Friendly League (I can assure you it wasn’t!).

Back Row: Stewart Barratt, Steven Hare, Colin Moore, Kevin Keep, Ian Coddington, George Donger, Nigel Smith.

Front Row: Errol Marriot, Ian Smith, Mike Smith, Andy Simpson, John Howitt, Bruce Rawlings.

The Bull Football Club changed to the Cricket Club F.C. in about 1981. It did play in a European tournament held in Belgium and France. I would love to tell you what went on during this trip but I will leave this to the other players and supporters. We lost people in all sorts of places.

I can remember the supporters club, consisting of Frank Wilkinson, Jeff Brindley, George Hodge (ex landlord of the Bull), meeting the French mayor of a small town where we played. Very interesting. There must be a lot more photos and storiesĀ from this trip. I think it was around Easter 1980?

  • I played for the Bull FC for a couple of years and went on the trip to Belgium – don’t remember a lot about. It was a very boozy trip! I also played for Bottesford FC and was in the under 21 side that won the Escritt and Barrell cup in 1978 (still got a team pic somewhere). I moved back to London early 80’s but remember my time in Bottesford very fondly.
