Our Day Out

By Willie Russell

BATS (Belvoir Amateur Theatrical Society) first production when the group returned to Bottesford in the early 1980’s was at the Belvoir High School and defied the theatrical convention – “Never work with animals or children”.

Julia Burton had started a youth theatre group – Bottesford Youth Theatre – at the high school and 1985 saw the first of two BYT and BATS collaborative productions.

“Our Day Out” follows the events of a school trip, where boisterous inner city kids visit a zoo and try to take some of the animals home.  The following photographs were taken on a BYT and BATS trip to the seaside.

An example of life imitating art!

No programme has survived of this production, so sorry “kids” other than Debbie I have no names for faces, perhaps you would like to identify yourselves – or perhaps not!

It was a memorable DAY OUT!
